Redefining Rape?

The House of Representatives is attempting to legally and permanently redefine Rape, under the guise of an anti-abortion bill. If the proposed Bill is accepted into law the current legal definition of Rape would drastically change to exclude rapes in which the woman was drugged or given excessive amounts of alcohol, rapes of women with limited mental capacity, and many date rapes. It would also exclude statutory rape, in which an underage girl has sex with another.

Thank you to Cassie for highlighting an article from Mother Jones which simplifies a Bill introduced to the House last week. The Bill is called, "No Tax Payer Money for Abortions" and is already supported and co-sponsored by 173 politicians. There are currently 435 seats in the House to give you an idea of how serious this situation has become.

Please read the article. Mother Jones notes, the bill would also forbid the use of tax benefits to pay for abortions, meaning that HSA accounts (which is simply money one earns from a job placed into an account pre-tax and is used strictly for personal medical expenses) could not be used for the abortion. Additionally, no woman would be able to deduct the cost of the abortion or the cost of any insurance that paid for an abortion as a medical expense on their taxes.

Regardless of your personal beliefs regarding abortion, it is crucial we protect the fragile rape laws in our country. It's only been in recent years that courts have supported "no means no" in rape cases.

We need to say no to "No Tax Payer Money for Abortions". Saying no to rape of any kind is supposed to mean "no". Limiting the definition to the violent-fighting-for-my-life is an outrage.

And keep on saying it until our voices are heard... "No Means No"!
